Let’s face it, for most independent artists, getting great Drums on their tunes is one of the hardest or most expensive parts of creating a marketable song that you’re excited to share. Maybe you don’t have access to a great drummer, a great recording space, or world-class mics/compressors/EQs/monitors/etc… ? Maybe you just simply want to make music & haven’t had over 30 years experience engineering drum tracks in various genres? Well, great news: We got ya’ covered!

The Process

  1. Tell us your vision for the track
  2. Send us your mix (without drums)
    We’ll review your track and get back with any questions
  3. We then track real drums with a real drummer using great rooms / mics / preamps / compressors / EQs for your song.
  4. We make a rough mix using your original mix and send it to you for approval.
  5. Once approved, we’ll send you the individual drum tracks, in the format you prefer. Voila’!

The Process

  1. It starts with listening to YOU, even before your song. What’s your vision? How do you want the track to sound? What are the unique elements you want to emphasize? Any ref tracks you want me to listen to?
  2. Next, I listen to your song. If needed, before mixing, I’ll offer feedback on tweaks that might make the mix process even better.
  3. Lastly, I take however long it takes me to mix your tune. I’m not interested in “cranking them out”, or treating songs & artists like “cattle”. I am interested in doing things efficiently & excellently… to me that equates to breathing life into each track. Whether it’s slamming rock, playful pop, heavy groove, or ambient alt, making the track “sing” is my focus.
  4. I’ll shoot you a reference mix for your evaluation at the end of the process. I include one revision in the mix price. Additional revisions are charged at standard hourly rates.

FAQs

Yes. If a note or 2 needs tuning in the Vox or an instrument, I’ll usually fix that quickly as I’m mixing at no charge. However, tuning an entire Vocal, or stacks of BGVs, Instruments, etc… is not a standard part of mixing. It’s best to have these done as they’re finished during tracking… BEFORE you get to the Mix stage. I can certainly provide that service, but it is not included in the “Mix” fee.

As above… a couple Kiks late? Or an off time snare hit? No prob…no charge. Need an entire performance quantized/”tightened up”? That needs to happen BEFORE you get to the Mix stage. We can certainly provide that service,  but again, it is not included in the “Mix” fee.

Vocal/Instrumental tuning and/or Drum editing done apart from Mixing is billed at our standard hourly rate: currently $50/hr.

When necessary, I provide Mastering for Singles, but generally avoid it for EPs or full-length projects. I work with several great Mastering Engineers (M.E.) & HIGHLY recommend that you use them. It’s always a good idea to have a second set of ears and skills on your project. Lastly, in many cases, the M.E.’s that I work with can do the job not only much better, but more inexpensively than I can.
