About our Rooms:
AllTheseSounds is located in a residential section of Cincinnati near the Cincinnati Mills Mall. Being located in a residential area, as well as the current prevalence of “home studios” has, at times, led new clients to ask if ours is “just another home studio”.
Hmmmm……
Calling ATS a “home studio” would be somewhat akin to calling a Ferrari a “nice car for going grocery shopping”. While there is some truth to the statement, it hardly does justice to the capabilities of the vehicle. ☺
ATS was designed & built from the ground up to function as a recording facility. The lower level started its life out as a large, empty 1200 sq. ft. room with concrete walls, and required a year and a half to build out. (Even during the construction phase, the studio was getting plenty of use. Katie Reider, whose recent passing has left many in Cincy with a vacancy in their hearts, recorded her first release “Wonder” out here in the midst of it… surrounded by sawdust/drywall/two-by-fours/a sawz-all/ and channel lock !) Later on, we were fortunate enough to be able to add 2 upper level rooms that sounded great as-is. Just had to provide minimal absorption and diffusion, as well as wiring.
A lot of effort went into designing a facility whose rooms, within the limitations of the physical site, would provide differing acoustic qualities for use in recording sessions. Any recording engineer will tell you that it’s amazing how different the same player/instrument can sound in a small wood or tile room or a large “live” room. By using varying materials, as well as room dimensions, we’re able to achieve different sonic “signatures” in each of our tracking rooms.
In addition to room acoustics, there’s also the aspect of HOW an artist/band wants to record. Some bands want to track in the same room simultaneously,using mic-bleed to maximal advantage. Some want a more “current” “one instrument at a time” recording. Others prefer the acoustic isolation & “control” of separate rooms, while still tracking simultaneously. Whatever your needs/desires, ATS is designed to be able to exceed them.
