Who We Are
As a guitarist, I come from a Rock & Pop background, but there’s really no genre of music that I don’t enjoy working with. Be it Bluegrass, Jazz, Alternative, or whatever, I really enjoy the relationships I’ve developed over the years with musicians/songwriters from all backgrounds. That also makes ATSM a really fun place to bring in artists from different musical backgrounds to collaborate, one of my FAVORITE things to do as a producer.
People don’t perform their best unless they’re challenged, encouraged to experiment, and most of all, RELAXED… I work really hard to build that kind of environment (and the TRUST that nurtures it) in every project that I, or the folks here at the studio, work on. I think people respond to that type of setting with their best (aka- “studio magic”)… “Magic” happens when folks are being who THEY uniquely ARE. If I can bring that out of someone, and capture it, I’ve done my job.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I am (to quote Nicholas Cage in “The Rock”) a gear “Super-Freak” ! I’ve always been enthralled by the way technology influences musical recordings… that’s the way I’ve been uniquely wired & it’s fascinating to me. That being said, the older I get, the more the following truth becomes clearer: The tools here are just that- TOOLS to do a job. Creating music has this weird, organic co-dependence between a musician & their instruments, be they voices, an oboe, or a great snare drum. I believe that having quality tools can help inspire the artist to sound & play their best, but it still AIN’T ABOUT the tools. It’s about the PEOPLE, and the gift of their song that I get the incredible opportunity to help birth… and I take that seriously… What an incredible opportunity to have!
